Please excuse the ugly gloves!  Fashion goes out the window at the barn.

The stitches do look better than a gaping wound, but still pretty ugly all in all.

The vet came out later and stitched him up after tranquing him, numbing the skin (to make it easy to stitch),  and cleaning the wound.

Poor pony is on 10 days’ stall rest and a course of antibiotics.  I’m curious to see the stitches tomorrow morning.

Timmy has a hoof abcess, so the farrier fashioned an attractive slipper made of Vetwrap and duct tape. Hopefully, Timmy will be back in action next week after the abcess heals.

That said, we had a good lesson today, working on cantering a small vertical at a decent pace. Of course, I had to work on both him and me to get anything resembling a pace. Trotting to the jump and then having the horse heave himself over it is not fun. Or pretty.

We trotted and cantered with changes of direction, and then she set up jump poles to trot across and then canter over! I did a little deep breathing, but everything was ok. And then we did a cross-rail, trotting and jumping again.

Timmy is a superstar! He has slowed down a bit and seems calm and happy in his work!
